Methodology
How we test software and AI tools
A useful review makes its reasoning visible. Here is the process behind our comparisons, conclusions and corrections.

The standard
Practical questions. Repeatable conditions.
We test for the outcome a user actually needs. Feature lists provide context, but they do not replace hands-on evidence.
Choose a useful question
We identify a decision where testing can reveal more than specifications alone.
Set the conditions
We define the task, inputs, constraints and success criteria before comparing results.
Record the result
We document outputs, friction, failures and meaningful differences as they occur.
How we choose what to test
We prioritize software, AI, automation and productivity tools that affect real purchasing or workflow decisions. Reader questions, meaningful product changes and gaps in existing coverage can all shape the testing queue.
Controlled comparisons
Whenever possible, competing tools receive the same prompt, source material, time limit, account tier and evaluation criteria. Exact parity is not always possible; when conditions differ, we explain why and avoid pretending the results are perfectly equivalent.
What we evaluate
Our criteria change with the job a product is meant to do. Common factors include output quality, accuracy, usability, reliability, speed, privacy controls, accessibility, pricing clarity and the effort required to reach a useful result.
Evidence and scoring
We favor visible evidence over a single opaque number. Screenshots, examples, settings and failure cases provide context that a score cannot. If a score is used, the review explains what it measures and how it was calculated.
Our verdicts
A verdict is not a universal ranking. It explains the users and situations a product suits, the trade-offs that matter and the alternatives worth considering. We separate observed results from interpretation and avoid guarantees about future performance.
Affiliate relationships
Some pages may contain affiliate links. A commission, free trial or evaluation account does not determine what we test or what we conclude. Material relationships are disclosed where readers can see them.
Updates and corrections
Products change. We update material facts when we retest or receive credible corrections, and we identify significant changes when context would otherwise be lost. To report an issue, use our contact form.
